Dear Rutgers community:
As you may be aware, a 7.9 magnitude earthquake hit the small town of Wenchuan in Sichuan Province, China on May 12th at 2:28 pm. The earthquake was so violent that it was felt in as far as Beijing, Shanghai and even Bangkok. As of today, the official death toll from the quake is 14,866. And there are still over 18,000 people reported to be buried under the debris as Chinese rescue teams desperately race to reach them. However, due to geographical limitations, external support was delayed as all roads to the epicenter were destroyed during the quake.
At Rutgers, some of us originally came from these areas. Their families and friends, like many others, are struggling to cope with the consequences of such a disaster. We, the Chinese Students and Scholars Association at Rutgers University (RCSSA), would like to raise awareness of the recent tragedy in China. We are currently building a website as a platform to update on news related to the mega quake, and to collect information from students whose families resides in the disastrous area to ensure their safety and to provide assistance if needed. We are also setting up a fund raising program to help the recovery of collapsed schools in the affected areas. Your donation will be highly appreciated. Please choose the following options:
1. Paypal online donation. Please go to www.weRUnited.net. Under the “English” Tab please click on the “Make a donation” button which guides you through the paypal online payment process.
2. Please mail your check to the following address. Ms. KE SHI, 65 Dudley Rd, New Brunswick, NJ 08901. Please make your check payable to RCSSA. Note “Earthquake Relief Donation” at Memo. Note “For Deposit only” on the back of your check.

RCSSA DONATION STATEMENT
1. The special fund raised by RCSSA will all be donated for the rescue efforts in the disaster area in Sichuan, China.
2. RCSSA is now seeking independent channels to donate the funding, with the assistance of a group of Rutgers students and scholars from the affected region in Sichuan. The donation will be mainly targeted at destructed schools and other educational services.
3. Volunteers from Rutgers who will participate in direct rescue work in China will seek direct donation channels as well. Volunteers will be responsible for their own expenses.
4. RCSSA will donate all the remaining balances to Red Cross in China.
5. RCSSA will update the amount of donation on www.weRUnited.net in a timely manner.
